About Halifax C&D Recycling Ltd
Company
Now part of the Municipal Group of Companies, Halifax C&D Recycling Ltd. services the needs of the construction industry by recycling waste generated by new construction, renovations and demolitions.
Halifax C&D recycles and remanufactures post consumer waste into new alternative waste products which are then marketed to the construction, manufacturing and energy industries for various uses. These products include animal bedding, shingle sand aggregate, shingle flake/plastic mix alternative fuel, septic sand as well as other products.
HCD started out with one employee and now employs over 50 full time employees year round at five different locations in and around Halifax. Halifax C&D is a leader in construction and debris recycling in Nova Scotia and Canada and meets a diversion rate of 75% from C&D landfills in Halifax. In addition to our two C&D recycling centres, we have the only licensed C&D landfill in Halifax and currently have a facility which has the contract to recycle all scrap tires generated in the province that is in the Tire Recycling Program managed by DivertNS (formerly the RRFB)
In the year 2000, Halifax C&D opened a second location to collect and manage the C&D waste that is generated in Dartmouth. That location is located in Cole Harbour. In 2003, we opened the first licensed privavtely owned landfill in Halifax under then HRM’s new bylaw L2000 which was brought in to encourage the recycling of C&D materials in an effort to reduce the amount of waste being landfilled.
Halifax C&D also provides waste recycling solutions for private landowners, contractors, developers and municipalities to efficiently and environmentally deal with their waste in various forms. HCD provides grinding services for government, businesses and landowners and the forestry industry in the Atlantic Provinces.
Halifax C&D Recycling recently just celebrated it’s 23rd year in operation in the recycling industry and looks forward to another 20+ successful years in business.
